VoIP Inmate Phone System
Video Arraignment
The standard VoIP Inmate phone system provides all the features expected in an inmate phone system. It is designed to interface into the PTS Commissary and Inmate accounting system. The systems telephony server was developed on the “Asterisk” open platform. Users are given voice prompts to enter desired selection. Operation costs have been drastically reduced through the VoIP technology. Revenues are shared based on contracts with the facility.
The standard VoIP Inmate phone can have a 5.5 “ screen that will provide the video component in the attorney visiting room at most facilities. The technology allows the phone to connect to similar devices in Court Rooms, Attorney Offices, or even Bail Bondsmen. The capability of the Judge/Magistrate or Defense Attorney to "see" the prisoner alleviates the transportation/security burden and the costs associated with them for hearings such as Magistrate, Arraignment, and Bond Reductions.
Video Visitation (Facility to Facility)
The standard VoIP Inmate phone with the 5.5 inch screen located in the dorms or pods and similar (or larger) devices located in the visitor center will provide the facility with inmate visitation without the inmate leaving the dorm. The device in the visitor center can have a kiosk for cash or card deposits to the inmate account. The technology allows the visitor center to be located anywhere—on the premises, at other detention centers nearer the visitor’s residence or even at a faith-based organization. There are tremendous advantages and cost reductions to the facility in not having to escort prisoners to visitor centers. The video visits from off premise offer a revenue sharing potential that can offset the costs for the local visitor center and court devices.
Video Visitation (Home)
The biggest technological step and revenue opportunity is to get the video visitation to the home of the inmate’s family. There are challenges to this approach that include monitoring for objectionable activity, internet availability at the home, scheduling, and equipment required, but the advantages are substantial.
The benefits to the facility for inmate visits via this device include:
Cost reductions from staff escorting prisoners
No contraband searches
No exposure to disease transmissions
An expanded visitation scheduling opportunity
A shared revenue stream that will rival the tradition inmate phone system.
The family benefits from the system through:
No transportation to the detention facility, which may not be available or feasible for the elderly
The cost and time associated with getting to the facility
The social exposure of children to the prison environment
The opportunity to expand the visitation time to meet the family’s needs
The device can be hooked to a TV so the entire family can “see” the inmate
House Arrest Monitoring
Installation of this device at an in-house incarceration will provide a guaranteed reliability of the compliance that exceeds conventional “voice pattern recognition” systems. It eliminates the costs of the band/bracelet technology and can be used as a revenue source.
