PTS MOBILE

OVERVIEW

PTS Mobile is our dynamic new IP based application that will set the standard in mobile technology. PTS can assist you in the selection of your entire system from RF infrastructure through ruggedized laptop computers. We offer a variety of RF options from shared networks such as Nextel, to cutting edge high speed RF infrastructures. PTS can deliver everything from exceptional mobile client functionality to mobile incident and crash reporting. Automatic vehicle location is also a standard option to our mobile application.

FEATURES

SECURITY FEATURES

The following is a description of the security and encryption procedures enabled in the PTS Mobile and Desktop NCIC inquiry application. The recent requirements published by the federal government make this an important factor in any system.

  • Authentication: Each device that will be connecting with the PTS mobile host controller has a unique authentication code that is registered with the host controller. This code is created during system installation and registered in the host server. Any attempt to communicate with the host by a device not authenticated with the host controller will be rejected.
  • User Log In: Once communication has been successfully established with the host, a Login function is enabled and the user can proceed to enter a user name and password. The user name and password are encrypted so they cannot be inadvertently captured and recorded. That information is transmitted to the host and unencrypted where a validation procedure takes place. An invalid user name and/or password combination will result in rejection by the host controller. The valid user name and password for access to NCIC is not stored on the client machine. We store that information in tables that reside on the host server. Access to NCIC requires that all of the above conditions be navigated successfully. Where required, the PTS application supports the requirement for password change at specified intervals. In addition, in states where criminal histories are permitted from mobile terminals, an additional authorization must be checked for each individual user so authorized.
  • Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connectivity: When the PTS application is initialized, the port supporting NCIC functions is opened. and communication between the client and the host takes place. A successful exchange of certificates must take place in order for the user to be able to perform any NCIC inquiries. The communication layer of this PTS application uses a FIPS 140-2 certified product called OpenSSL from Open Source Software Institute. The product was issued certificate number 733 by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The public certificate and private key generated by PTS are both 2048 bit RSA encrypted. All NCIC traffic is passed through the secure socket layer.
  • Data Encryption: In addition to the above, the PTS Incident product encrypts all data using a DES algorithm with a 168 bit key. All incident reporting data that is passed between the client application and the mobile host controller is encrypted.
  • Kill Switch: In the event that a device is lost or stolen, a signal can be sent from the host by command that will shut the device down and disable its' authentication. Once shut down, any attempt to log back in will fail the authentication requirement defined above. That device will be unable to be used in the mobile network until re-authorized by an administrator with rights to do so.

OTHER FEATURES

  • Designed to be "user-friendly": compatible with touch-screen systems and traditional mouse/keyboard setups.
  • Quick and Easy NCIC checking.
  • Instant Messaging allows instant communication between units without tying up radio traffic.
  • Global Positioning System.
  • Color-coded status indicators for ease of identification.
  • Units can make their own non-call related status changes without tying up radio traffic.
  • Enables you to check the status of other active units.
  • Allows units to fill in details for their own calls, allowing dispatchers to focus on other tasks.
  • Supervisors can choose whether units record the vehicle ID number and/or starting/ ending mileage when logging into/ out of the system.
  • Optimize your color settings to facilitate easier viewing depending on whether it's day or night.
  • Officers can enter all details of a traffic stop record, without having to tie up radio traffic. If you also use PTS CAD Solutions, the two programs will work seamlessly together; changes in status made in PTS Mobile will be automatically updated in CAD Solutions.
